The European soccer organization has admitted Kosova (Kosovo) as its newest member, bringing an end to a quarter-century period of isolation for the small country.
Kosova began organizing association football independently of the former Yugoslavia 26 years ago, but was denied affiliation with international bodies because of politics.
As of today, Kosova is UEFA’s 55th member, and Kosovar teams will be allowed to compete internationally for the first time in history. Kosova’s national team may also participate in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
