War refugee cat passes away

A feline pal that followed his human companions during the Kosova War has died. The family rescued Mac (pronounced Matz) 16 years ago.

But in 1999, the animal became one of about a million Kosovars driven out of their homes by Serb forces. His companions took Mac with them, living together in makeshift refugee tents.

The family eventually relocated to Lyon, France, and returned to Kosova shortly after the war ended. Mac went along with them.

Jeta and Kreshnik, the siblings who rescued Mac at the turn of last century, ran a memorial ad in Kosova’s leading newspaper:

A Month Without Our MACI
Mac, we took you in from the street for one night, because you’d been injured, but we kept you for 16 years. You became part of the family. Together we went through the horrors of 1999 in Bllaca and Stenkovec. You also spent six months as a refugee in Lyon, France. We took care of you as if you were a child or our brother. We grew up with you, took you with us everywhere we went, and loved you lots! Now that you’ve departed from this world, we miss you a lot. We won’t forget you, Mac!
Remembered by Jeta and Kreshnik Musolli, Mom, Dad, and sister and family from Prishtina.
